Including children of all ages in daily Bible time

We try very hard to have a Bible time every morning.  This has looked different for us throughout the years, as most things have.  Ages and stages change, our housing situation has changed, and our time management efforts have greatly changed.  Here are some ideas that have worked for us and that may work for you.  Keep in mind that this whole process takes dedication and perseverance.  Like most things that are actually worth something!

  • Start your day with Bible time.  This will show your children (and remind yourself) of the most important thing in their life, Christ.
  • Have everyone sit on the sofa and listen to Audio Bible.  We sometimes do this with coffee, cocoa or tea in hand.
  • Expect the children that can read to follow along with their Bibles, and take notes.
  • Have a box of Bible Storybooks the non-readers can pick from, expect them to sit quietly and if they finish their book expect them to re-read it.
  • Have your personal Bible time first.  Expect to be managing children during this time.  It is a teaching time for them.  They are learning to read the Bible everyday without distraction.
  • Read the Bible to them during this time or let your readers read a section of scripture and talk about it.
  • Let your small children color a Bible verse.
  • Begin and end with prayer.  We have a deep understanding of the Bible because God sent us the Holy Spirit.  Start your Bible study by asking Him for wisdom.  Close your Bible study by thanking Him for the word!
  • Play a Children's sermon during this time.  Sermon Audio has some great ones.
  • Keep it short and sweet, depending on the ages of your children!
One of the fruits of daily Bible time?  Children that can sit through church without the expectation of being entertained.

I am praying that God would use these ideas to inspire you!
