Date Night Ideas!

Who: JUST you and your husband.

What: A date night.

Where: Home? Movies? Coffee shop? Car? Dinner?

When: As often as you can :-)

Why: Because you actually like each other, and probably miss spending time with one another, even if you don't realize it.

Here is a list of date night tips and ideas:
  • We save gift cards to use for dates, anytime we get random coffee gift cards, restaurant gift cards or freebies like that, we save them. (See my swagbucks post)
  • We swap babysitting with another couple we are comfortable with.  This saves on a sitter and it is usually a fun play date for the kids.
  • We live in a small town and we love it, BUT  when we go on a date we don't want to see anyone we know.  It's hard, but we've found a few places (I can't list them...) that we can hide away without interruption.
  • Have a date at home.  Order food in, or cook food, put the kids to bed early and rent a movie.  Make your favorite dessert to share.
  • Make sure your dates aren't all business.  There are times when we are tempted to talk about all of the important things we have to catch up on and this is good, just make sure you also have dates that are about flirting and spending time with each other, getting to know each other more.
  • Don't let money or a lack of money stop you from going on dates.  There are a million different things you can do that are free.  Walk the mall and window shop, walk the hardware store and window shop, make a picnic dinner and eat at a park in the summer or in the car in the winter.  The possibilities are endless!
  • Set-up the date early in advance.  The more children you have the more you have to make an effort to plan for things.  Get a sitter lined up early, start setting aside snacks or games for kids to bring to a friends house if you are swapping child care and prepare your children ahead of time especially if you are not used to leaving them with friends.

  1. Hubs and I committed to date nights once a month, so for the last several months we have taken our kiddo over to the grandparents and we get a couple hours alone! Sometimes we just clean the house and rest for a bit, sometimes we go out, but we have always felt so refreshed and reconnected afterwards. Hoping to work up to more frequent dates in the future :)
